Busy busy!!!

Last night Manny worked a 24 hour shift at a fire station. They had 12 calls. He was telling me all about them while he drove me to work. He went to my parent's house after dropping me off. He said he wanted to just stay there and sleep. Poor guy only got 45ish minutes of sleep. At least he has a few days to recover before his next 24 hour shift.

Manny didn't get much sleep today either because he has to take Muñeca for her 8 week shots. The Vet noted that she is skinny! She recommended a whole bunch of fancy dog foods to fatten her up. I told Manny that in a year or so she will be noting on Muñeca's chart that she is too fat. Hahaha!! She eats when she wants so I am not worried about her. I really rather not have a fat wiener dog. The vet also cleaned Muñeca's ears and Manny said they were really dirty. He was embarrassed. I told him there was no way all the earwax was from her time with us. We have only had her for three weeks. The vet gave us some ear cleaner. This vet is fancy. Man!! Haha

Yesterday one of my kids went home crying. He doesn't know much English. Poor baby. Apparently he was upset because he bought a lunch but his mom had packed him one. Today when his mom picked him up, he was jumping up and down. It was cute! He really enjoyed math time :-) and he ate the lunch his mom packed him. Seeing his excitement is what makes me want to teach.

Tomorrow I am getting a new student. At least it's not like last year where I got a new student 10 days before summer. In Kindergarten, you are constantly teaching and reteaching, so it shouldn't be hard to bring her up to speed. Should be fun! Hoping our numbers stay low though. I like having 18.

On a side note, I am not the only one to set off the smoke detectors in this building. Manny and I were sitting in the livingroom and we heard this loud beeping sound. We were just continuing doing what we were doing, then we looked at each other. Right when I said "I think it's a smoke detector. I wonder where it's coming from," the smoke alarm stopped. I am not embarrassed anymore for setting off the smoke detector. I have been pretty proactive when I am cooking. No new smoke detector stories. I hope it stays that way for a while *knock on wood*.

I hope everyone has a wonderful evening and a blessed Wednesday :-) I am going to try to go to bed again early. I went to bed at 8:30 last night. It was so nice except that Muñeca knew it wasn't bed time because Manny wasn't home. She stayed up playing and barking. She better sleep tonight!! Haha

Oh life!

Ok so Manny and I got married June 15th and now we are currently living in an apartment. Manny goes to Fire Academy everyday and I am left here at home alone. So needless to say, I have a lot of adventures here at home.

My first adventure was a few weeks ago when I was making tortillas. I had made the dough and was starting to fry them. Part of a tortilla stuck to the pan and started smoking a lot. (Well I thought it was part of a tortilla, it was really a piece of melted spatula). All the smoke set the fire alarm off, so I quickly turned on the fan above the stove, the fan in the living room, I opened the back door, and turned on the AC. I closed our bedroom door because apparently there are two smoke alarms in our apartment that are three feet apartment, whose idea was that?!?! When I closed our bedroom door that smoke alarm stopped beeping, and I started fanning the smoke alarm in the dining room with a towel. It stopped after a few minutes. I was scared that the building smoke alarm would go off, it didn't. So then I was afraid that the neighbors would come over and ask if everything was good. Nothing happened. I was in the clear. I just bad a smoke filled apartment.

Last week I was making Chicken Parmesan... Well you have to brown it before you put it in the oven, so I put some oil in the pan and was waiting for it to simmer. I was waiting and waiting and waiting, I decided I would stir the oil with a spoon.I was stirring the hot oil and I saw white in the bottom of the pan and I thought "Oh man! Am I making butter?!?" Not thinking clearly because obviously oil doesn't turn into butter -_- haha! I finally saw a string from the spoon... Snaps!! The spoon had melted...

The oil was smoking so I did my smoke routine. I turned on the stove fan, the living room fan, opened the back door, turned on the AC, closed our bedroom door, and started fanning the smoke detector with a towel. The smoke detector stopped beeping, but the oil was still smoking a lot. I knew I had to get rid of the oil. I was smart enough to know not to dump the hot oil down the sink... So plan B! I took it outside and dumped the oil on a bush (I didn't think about the bush combusting, luckily it had rained most of the day so everything was wet). I was in the clear again, but just had an apartment filled with smoke.
The poor bush that sacrificed it's life for my burning eyes!

Ok so I know it's not just me because Manny and I made tortillas last week before my second incident and we set off the smoke detector. It's just too sensitive! It might come unplugged soon. Don't tell my soon-to-be fireman husband.
